Happy Valley: Season 1 - Synopsis:
Happy Valley is a British crime drama television series that aired its first season in 2014. The show is set in the Calder Valley, a rural region in Northern England, and follows the story of police sergeant Catherine Cawood as she deals with a series of crimes in her area.
The series begins with Catherine Cawood, played by Sarah Lancashire, trying to come to terms with the suicide of her daughter Becky. Catherine blames Tommy Lee Royce, a local drug lord, for Becky's death as he had a relationship with her and was responsible for her drug addiction. Meanwhile, a botched kidnapping attempt leads to the brutal murder of a young local accountant named Vicky Fleming.
As Catherine investigates the kidnapping and murder, she discovers that Tommy Lee Royce is involved and begins to unravel a complicated web of crime and corruption in her community. She soon finds herself embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with Tommy Lee Royce, who has a personal vendetta against Catherine and will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
The series delves into the complex lives of its characters, including Catherine's family and colleagues, as well as the criminals she is trying to bring to justice. The writing is top-notch, with intricate plot twists and turns that keep the audience engaged and on the edge of their seats.
