Mortal Engines - Synopsis:
In a world where cities roam the Earth on wheels and consume smaller towns to survive, Mortal Engines is a post-apocalyptic epic that tells the story of two people who meet in London and try to stop a conspiracy that threatens the very existence of civilization as we know it. Based on the novel of the same name by Philip Reeve, the movie is directed by Christian Rivers and features a star-studded cast including Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, and Hugo Weaving.
The movie is set in a future where the world has been ravaged by a devastating event known as the "Sixty Minute War." In this new world, cities are no longer stationary, but are mobile and roam the Earth on giant wheels. The bigger cities consume smaller towns and settlements to replenish their resources, leading to a world where survival is the ultimate goal.
The story begins in London, one of the largest and most powerful cities in the world. As the story progresses, Hester and Tom find themselves embroiled in a conspiracy that threatens the balance of power in the world. Thaddeus Valentine, the chief engineer of London, has discovered a powerful weapon that can destroy entire cities, and plans to use it to solidify London's dominance over the other cities. Hester and Tom must stop Thaddeus before it's too late.
Mortal Engines features a diverse and dynamic cast of characters, each with their own unique backstory and motivations. Hera Hilmar delivers a powerful performance as Hester Shaw, a young woman driven by a thirst for revenge.
